Outside the set a fire engine stands ready, its crew ready to put the fire of the explosion out once “cut” is called, and the scene is completed.

Actually, pieces of paper sprayed light green. Despite a big clean up, the stuff was to be found all over the sets and production offices long after the episode had been completed!
